NS chem ch.4 - passage Q6

Post by mcatacct1 » Mon Nov 25, 2019 11:26 am

which of the following solutions is most likely to require a brown bottle for proper use in experiment?

A. Mn
B. Cd
C. Si
D. Os

The correct answer is D. I chose B. The key information needed to solve this was stated in paragraph two that there are "light solution rxns common to transition metals in the 5th period and below". Cd is in the 5th period. Os is in the 6th period. The explanation says it's Os because it's the only one that is "both a transition element and is found in period 6".

Cd is in the 5th period. It's also a transition metal. Why is B not the correct answer?

This seems to be a mismatch between the passage and the question (read: an error). While we constantly update our materials, old errors like this that have long since been fixed do propagate in print for a while.
