NS FL #5, CARS 13

Post by sdaswani » Thu Mar 14, 2019 7:50 am

Hi --- doesn't the author tell us how the ill suited British white ties are still used among the upper class in India? I was confused why the correct answer says "nonetheless failed to adapt for generations." Doesn't this imply that the culture did not last? Would appreciate any clarification.

Thank you!

Yes, the author does state that the British fashions are not well-suited to the tropical climate in India. But the author also points out that the fashion sensibilities of the British continued and continue to be popular, despite the fact that it doesn't align well with the climate. This implies that even if a culture is not well-suited to a new environment, it may still persist in its current form without making adaptations to the new setting. It's not stated that the culture would fail to survive or anything, just that it won't adapt. Answer choice D is most aligned with this idea.

I hope this helps!
