Hello,

For the vacuum distillation, I just wanted to know why boiling chips are used? How do these chips prevent superheating, do they absorb the heat from the Bunsen burner? What is the result if the liquid is superheated? Thanks.

Boiling chips allow for boiling to occur faster, as they provide a corner/edge for bubbles to more easily form. Superheating is undesirable primarily because it is dangerous, but also because extremely high temperatures can shift the balance of a reaction.
