Exam Difficulty

Post by NS_Tutor_Sophia » Fri Feb 15, 2019 12:08 pm

A student recently asked us if the Next Step PCAT exams vary or progress in difficulty.

This is a great question, and it's one we get asked a lot! All of the Next Step PCAT exams are designed to be representative of the official PCAT in terms of content, difficulty, and scoring, so the exams should be similar in terms of overall difficulty, and the order in which they are taken does not matter.

If one test or section is perceived as more difficult than another, it may be due to differences in the content or passages presented on each section or each exam, but overall scoring on the PCAT is determined by the distribution of responses on that exam. In other words, if a Biological Processes section is more "difficult" on one exam than on another, the scoring scale will generally be more lenient on that exam and still result in a representative score.
