Bacterial Chromosomes (Q11, BioQpack2)

Post by newensj » Thu Aug 08, 2019 1:27 pm

I'm doing #11 on the bio q pack and I have a general question-- are bacterial chromosomes always attached to the cell membrane?

In the passage it says that plasmids are not attached to cell membrane (which makes sense) which results in it not being equally distributed. however, their chromosomes are (according to the passage)

is this always the case? Is this a significant fact we should know?
thanks in adv!

Attached to the cell membrane during binary fission is what is meant. It is maybe worth being aware of the importance of the bacterial membrane for many cellular functions, including DNA replication - but I don't think you need to worry much beyond that, or even worry about what all those functions are (the major exception being ATP synthesis, which you should probably be aware of).
