Lesson 6 Video 7

Postby ArielM » Tue Nov 21, 2017 7:44 pm

Just a quick question about the graph on slide 2 about SN1 Reaction Conditions. In this graph, it appears that the polar protic solvent decreases the activation energy; however, I do not know if that is actually true... because I truly cannot tell the difference between which line is the reaction with the polar solvent and which line is the reaction with the non-polar solvent. It's possible that I just may not be reading the graph correctly....

Is the lower line the polar protic solvent and the upper line the non-polar solvent? I've included an attachment.

Hi Ariel,

Yes, the lower line should be the polar protic solvent and the higher line should be the nonpolar solvent. We'll make a note to clarify that!

Thanks for the question :).
