Lesson 16: Chemistry 3, Acid-Base Chemistry

Postby ArielM » Tue Oct 31, 2017 1:54 pm

On slide 4, there is a math shortcut for calculating [X] (pX when X= C * 10^-E, can be calculated quickly as: (E-1) * (10-C)).

I just noticed a small mistake on the slide:
[OH-]= (6.8) . (10^-4)
pOH= (4-1) . (10-6.2) (Should this have been 6.8?)
pOH= (3) . (3.8)
pOH= 3.38

Hi Ariel,

Thanks for pointing this out! Yes, you're totally correct that this is a typo -- and in fact, if the correct value had been used, the estimate would have been 3.32, which is even closer to the calculator value. We'll make a note of this and fix it.
