Lecture 6, Part 3, Slide#7, Q#1 (Quiz)

Postby BusyBeeh » Fri Jun 09, 2017 4:42 am

I had an issue with the following question:

Enzyme B is introduced to a reaction for which the reactants are substrates to Enzyme B. Which of the following will occur?

a) The time taken to reach equilibrium is reached is decreased
b) The rate at which equilibrium is reached is decreased
c) Keq for the reaction will increase
d) The forward and reverse reactions will proceed slower

I chose answer A but the video states that the correct answer is D. Can someone please explain how the forward and reverse reactions will slow down if an enzyme is present? I would think that they would speed up if the enzyme is lowering the activation energy.
