Amino Acid Structure and Properties Content Video

Postby ma986 » Fri Feb 02, 2018 6:11 pm

In this video, the first quiz question 5 states "the covalent bond between two amino acids may be called (select all that apply)"

Isn't the answer just a peptide bond formed via a condensation reaction?

Because amino acid bonds are called peptide bonds. And its formation is a condensation reaction. But the breaking is a hydrolysis reaction.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!

Hi Maria,

Thanks for the question! Nothing you wrote in your question is wrong; the only thing to add is that peptide bonds form amide functional groups, so you could also refer to them as amide bonds. This isn't extremely common in practice, but it definitely can come in handy to understand that the bond in question forms an amide.

Hope this helps clarify things, & best of luck!
