MCAT Science QBook

Post by Moji-blue » Tue May 01, 2018 7:07 pm

Hi:

I wanted to check the answer choice of question 493 from MCAT Science QBook. I believe the answer is cardiac muscle, which is choice B however, the book said C. Although the explanation is right.

Thank you.

Best regards,

The book is correct. Because we know that it is mononucleated it must be either cardiac or smooth muscle. If we knew for a fact that it had striations that would make cardiac the only choice, but the question tells us that we aren’t sure if it has striations. Both cardiac and smooth muscles may contain gap junctions, making C the correct answer. Let me know if that makes sense!
