Why is y2=5m not 20?

Hi mshah,
Excellent question! That's because we defined y=0 as being the surface of the water. We could have defined the ground as y=0, the hole as y=20, and the surface of the water as y=25 - the math would be the same, just a little bit more involved to actually carry out. The key here is to define the y coordinates in a system in the way that makes your life easiest

WOuldn't you get a higher velocity if u used 20 as the height of the hole?
