FL9 #19 bio/biochem section

How does increase rates of apoptosis help with preventing sepsis? I would assume the death of blood cells would not be desirable. Can you please explain so that i can better understand this question?

Hi jumpinfeet,

Thanks for the great question! You're right that apoptosis wouldn't be helpful in preventing sepsis. It sounds like the source of confusion here might be between the role of EOLA1 and the effects of EOLA1 siRNA. EOLA1 siRNA interferes with EOLA1, so Figure 1 shows us what happens when EOLA1 isn't doing its thing -- the conclusion is therefore that EOLA1 plays a role in preventing apoptosis.

Does this help clarify things? If not please feel free to follow up :).
