This question talks about how there is a missense mutation from Ala to Val, and what are the possible effects of this mutation?
There were two options I was stuck between: no effect, or disrupted in folding due to the steric hindrance.

I chose the steric hindrance one in the end because valine's side chain is bigger than the R group on Ala. But it turned out to be that there would be no effect. I was wondering what I was missing so I can be more successful the next time a similar question comes up.

Thank you!

While there is a difference in size, it isn't much. If you mutated alanine into tryptophan --> that would likely cause an increase in steric interference.
