Re: Part-time Study Plan

Hi Sam_S, That's a great question! All study plans contain the core Lesson Videos, Content Review Videos, and reading from the PCAT Review Book, regardless of how long your plan is. Those will cover the content and strategy you'll need for the PCAT, so as long as you complete these assignments, foll...

Re: Note Taking Tips??

Too concise is definitely better - you can always go back and add more when you're reviewing and realize you forgot to add a key point. But if you get in the habit of basically re-transcribing the entire chapter from the books, you'll never finish.

Good luck!

Re: Amino Acid Structures

Hey Justin, those are the same molecule. In both cases, the side chain is attached to a carbon (which is the alpha carbon, itself attached to an amino group and a carbonyl carbon).

Here's a color-coded version of the image to help clarify.

Re: CARS help

Hey there Emma, I wish there was a simple solution here. Believe me, if there was, they would put it in the video course right up front at Lesson 2 in the CARS lesson. You've got to be willing to just keep trying different approaches and coming at the passages in different ways until you find someth...

Re: Tests

The explanation brings up two factors that you commonly need when analyzing O-chem problems on the MCAT - steric hindrance and electron density. That is, the MCAT doesn't often want you memorizing every single step of complex organic mechanisms. Instead, stick with general principles. A common one i...

Solutions can be described using a percentage as weight/weight or volume/volume or even weight/volume. Here, it look like the question is asking about a 20% weight/weight solution.

Re: Biochemistry

Hey, The main thing to remember about the pentose phosphate pathway is that in the oxidative phase it generates NADPH and ribulose-5-phosphate and in the non-oxidative phase it converts between various sugars (and can eventually make products that feed into glycolysis). The MCAT only ever seems to w...
